The latest rumour to be going around the web regarding Sony Ericsson and their Xperia range of handsets, is a Windows Phone 7 handset, dubbed the Xperia X7. The existence of an Xperia handset running WP7 is very plausible, as is the fact that it could run be named the Xperia X7, however the specs of the handset leads us to believe the rumor is most likely fake.
A video has surfaced which shows us the Xperia Q1 2011 lineup which includes the Xperia X7 and the Xperia X7 Mini. Again, the fact that Sony Ericsson might release a WP7 and a mini version, is possible, considering how the company went with the X10 and X10 Mini. However the video shows us that the Xperia X7 has a 1.2GHz Qualcomm processor, 4.3 inch WVGA screen and an 8.1 megapixel camera and 720p HD video recording capability. Both the screen size and processor are improved over the Xperia X10, while the camera features remain the same. Nothing there really gives an indication of whether the leak is real or fake but, if we move onto the X7 Mini, some of the leaked specifications really don’t add up to a Mini version.
The screen size and processor are both lesser on the X7 Mini, with the screen size rumoured to be 3.5 inch WVGA and the processor being 1GHz. Both of those specs make sense for a Mini handset, however when we come to the camera part on the list, it lists the X7 Mini as having a better camera than the full size X7, featuring a 10.1 MP camera and again, 720p HD video recording as well as 3x optical zoom.
The video also shows that the Mini comes with “budled” noise cancellation headphones, while the Xperia X7 doesn’t. Perhaps it could be a typo on Sony Ericsson’s part but, it certainly looks like a fake leak. Sony Ericsson are yet to comment on the leaked document, we do however know that they are keen to work on a Windows Phone 7 handset, whether it’ll be part of the Xperia range or not though, is currently unknown until this is proven to be real, or an official announcement is made from Sony Ericsson.
