The official announcement of Sony Ericsson’s latest model, the Xperia Play, might come sooner than we think. It was previously speculated that the device will debut at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2011 this February 14 to 17 at Barcelona, Spain. This changed however when a creative director for McCann Worldgroup has revealed during an interview with ABC News Nightline that they have been closely working with Sony Ericsson to place an ad during Super Bowl XLV this coming Sunday.
This move by Sony Ericsson will cost it millions of dollars for a 30-60 second ad however it would be money well spent since the event will have a captive audience of more than 100 million people in America and around the world.
We’ve already seen a leaked copy of the ad which is available at YouTube and this could be the same one shown during Super Bowl XLV unless Sony Ericsson has a few more surprises in store for us. The ad took 4 months to create and was shot in Thailand for 9 days.
Make sure to tune in to Super Bowl XLV this February 6 for the official announcement by Sony on the Xperia Play.
