The worst kept secret of Sony Ericsson which we now know as the Xperia Play is targeting a March release date as what Sony Executives have announced at the ongoing Mobile world Congress at Barcelona. This means that the major UK networks will soon make it available to the public in a few weeks time. In the US, it will apparently be carried exclusively by Verizon while in Canada Rogers will carry it.
The Xperia Play will be released with Android 2.3 running on it and will be powered by a 1 GHz Scorpion Arm 7 processor with help from an Adreno GPU to provide up to 60 frames per second for 3D games. It uses similar controls from a PlayStation controller which should only take a few minutes to get used to.
An estimated 50 gaming titles are already lined up to be available when this model will be released including FIFA 10, The Sims 3, Splinter Cell, Assassins Creed and Guitar Hero. There are already 20 publishers as of now who are supporting this platform with Gameloft leading them all with 10 titles planned to be made available during the release date.
Although the release date was revealed, no news has yet been released on the price for the Xperia Play.
