O2 recently dropped the price of the Sony Ericsson Xperia Play in the UK down to a rather ridiculously low price of just £149.99 with no top up needed, free delivery and a choice of either the black Xperia Play or the white model, which was exclusive to O2 in the UK.
For those who didn’t take advantage of this offer, it initially looked like you may have missed your chance with O2, as the handset was removed from the O2 website. An O2 rep couldn’t divulge more information, other than it was no longer available. An unknown source however, indicated that O2 were discontinuing the handset, along with the Xperia Arc and Neo. Earlier today, this certainly looked like the case. Neither of the three handsets were available through O2, on pay as you go or pay monthly.
However, the Sony Ericsson Xperia Play has now reappeared on the O2 website. Unfortunately the price is not as tempting as it was a few weeks ago. O2 now have the Xperia Play in white only but, with a price tag of £199.99. It also appears that O2 are also selling the Xperia Play with an 8GB memory card, instead of the 16GB one that is normally included with the handset.
With regards to the Xperia Arc and Xperia Neo, it appears that O2 have replaced the Arc with the Arc S and will, presumably at some point, replace the Xperia Neo with the Neo V, despite the revised Neo handset having lower specifications than the original Neo. The Neo V comes with a 5 megapixel camera like the Xperia Play, compared to the 8 megapixel camera found on the original Xperia Neo and Xperia Arc.
