Yesterday we learned that UK network Three had delayed the release of the Sony Ericsson Xperia Play. At the time we didn’t know if this was down to them finding any bugs in the software, like O2 had or if it was due to stock issues. We can now confirm that it is down to stock, or rather freight issues. Both Three and Vodafone are experiencing a delay in releasing the Xperia gaming handset. Vodafone are also having stock issues with the Xperia Arc.
While neither handset can be ordered online and is unlikely to be available in store, stores like Carphone Warehouse and Phones4U, which deal with all networks have had the stock in and are able to sell the handsets on the networks. Not only will you get your nice shiny handset now instead of waiting, the Xperia handsets in stock through these companies, tend to be unlocked and unbranded, meaning not only do you get a handset without the network specific software on it, when Sony Ericsson release a software update for the handset, there will be no waiting for the network to also approve the update before releasing is, which was an issue with the Xperia X10, Sony Ericsson’s first Android powered handset.
