Sony Ericsson announce two more Xperia handsets

Sony Ericsson have announced a further two handsets to be included in their 2011 range of Xperia smartphones. Both of the handsets fall into the “mid size” range of phones, making them smaller than the already released flagship handsets, the Xperia Arc and Xperia Play.

Xperia Ray

The Xperia Ray is bigger than the Xperia Mini recently announced but, smaller than the Xperia Arc. The Xperia Ray however, features most of the great specs of the Xperia Arc but, provided in a smaller form. The Xperia Ray will feature an 8.1 megapixel camera with Exmor R and HD video recording capabilities. The handset will also feature a 1GHz processor and the Mobile Bravia Engine. However this will be on a smaller screen, a 3.3″ screen to be precise. Despite the size difference, the Xperia Ray will have the same resolution as the Arc, which is 854×480. Size wise, the Xperia Ray measures a mere 9.44mm, only slightly bigger than the Arc at it’s thinnest point.

Xperia Active

The second handset announced by the company, is the Sony Ericsson Xperia Active. Featuring a 3 inch display with a smaller resolution of 320 x 480, the Active offers something different to the other Xperia handsets on the market. Like it’s Xperia family, the Active will run on Android 2.3 but, is aimed more at those looking for a phone to keep up with their active life style. The handset is not only dustproof but, water resistant as well and will feature a unique technology which allows the phone to still function when your hands are wet, or the screen is wet. Wet finger tracking does as the name suggests, if the screen is wet, or your fingers are wet, the phone will still respond to your touch, something which other phones on the market don’t currently do, not well any way.

Both handsets will be released globally from Q3. The Xperia Ray will be available in black, white, gold or pink, where as the Active will just be available in black or white.
