It’s been a while since Sony Ericsson released Android 2.3.3 for the Xperia X10 and for a while there, we thought we’d never see it. In the UK the Android update has been rolled out to generic unbranded handsets and network branded handsets, except for O2 branded ones. O2 were always quite slow with the uptake of the Xperia X10 updates but, none the less they have confirmed that their Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 owners will be getting Android 2.3.3, aka Gingerbread on their devices.
O2 state that they had problems while testing the software on the phones and found the update caused problems with the camera. They have worked with Sony Ericsson to resolve this issue and go on to say that the update will be released via the Sony Ericsson PC Companion in a week. They do however warn that as the X10 was only really meant to work with Android 2.2 so, if you do update to Android 2.3, the X10 may run slower than you’re used to and advise that you should be sure about updating as it’s an irreversible action. Currently the O2 branded Xperia X10s are running Android 2.1.
