Havoc Platform to be Available for the Xperia Play

Sony Ericsson has partnered with Havok to bring the Havok Platform to the Xperia Play. Havoc announced that they have ported seven of their products to the Android 2.3 Gingerbread and will be made available for licensing to Android game developers for the Xperia Play.

If you are wondering what Havok is it’s actually a set of tools that ensure a high quality gaming experience with great performance. The products of Havoc that have been ported over are

  • Havok AI: Allows efficient pathfinding in games
  • Havok Animation: Provides optimum playback and blending
  • Havok Behavior: Allows for dynamic event-driven characters to be made
  • Havok Cloth: Defines character cloth and garment movement and textures
  • Havok Destruction: Simulates realistic destruction
  • Havok Physics: Simulates collision detection in real time
  • Havok Script (Kore VM): A fast virtual machine

With the Xperia Play now supporting the Havok Platform we will soon be seeing games which were only possible in standalone gaming consoles.

Havok is currently available for the Xbox, PS3, PSP and Wii. Several popular titles that use this platform are Halo Reach, Assassin’s Creed, Bioshock 2 and Fallout New Vegas just to name a few.
