According to Sony Ericsson Spain, this was the week that Android 2.1 was due to be released on the Xperia X10. Sony Ericsson UK have also continuously been confirming that Android 2.1, aka Eclair will be headed to the Xperia X10 range in Q3, which brings us until the end of September. Today however, the official Sony Ericsson blog have provided an “update on the updates” and unfortunately it’s bad news.
The company needs a couple more weeks before they are ready to roll the update out to ensure that the update is of high quality and all the bugs are ironed out before making it live. The update will begin rolling out from the end of October. The actual release for your handset will vary depending on which “kit” your X10 belongs to. According to Sony Ericsson, a “kit” is a different configuration, based on bundled accessories, software configurations and even color. The software configurations is the most important which is related to settings, languages, applications, etc and of course, operator requirements. The Sony Ericsson blog will keep users updated on when the software is available for selected markets. Until then, they will provde video and visual examples of what our phones will look like, once we receive the update. All three models of the X10 will be updated to Android 2.1 and will include the following changes:
Xperia X10:
* HD video recording with continuous auto-focus for high quality videos
* Upgrade of the Android platform to Android 2.1
* New back up and restore application, with extended content back up
* 5 home screens for apps, widgets, shortcuts and folders
* Social phonebook which automatically syncs contact pictures from Facebook and shows when your friends are online
Xperia X10 mini and X10 mini pro:

* New backup and restore application with extended content back up
* Automatic synchronization of your contact pictures between Facebook and your phone book
