There’s been quite a few price drops on Sony Ericsson handsets lately and here’s another one that’s just come through. While this handset isn’t new, it is refurbished and sold by a trustable UK online retailer. Mobiles.co.uk state that the refurbished handsets are units that have been returned under their 7 day returns policy and have been fully tested and inspected and also come with a full 12 month warranty.

Mobiles are selling refurbished Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 Mini’s for £49.90 on O2, Vodafone and Orange. A £10 top up is required however, taking the overall price for £59.90 with free delivery. Which ever network you choose though, the phone will be unlocked.

The Xperia X10 Mini still retails for other £100 new at other retailers and even with a smaller screen size than the Xperia X8, which we’ve recently seen drop in price, the X10 Mini does have a substantially better camera. The X10 Mini is equipped with a 5 megapixel camera and has flash.

This is last years X10 Mini model, so will not be updated past Android 2.1 which, should be on the phone already. The X10 Mini has removable back covers but, Mobiles say that refurbished handsets might not come with all the accessories, in this case the other replacement back covers. Replacement backs are available on eBay though so you can pick the color of your choice. Another thing to note about this handset, is unlike the other Xperia handsets and the majority of other phones on the market, the X10 Mini does not have a removable battery.

The Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 Mini may be last year’s phone but, it still remains a good choice for those looking for a budget range Android phone. The Xperia X10 Mini usually retails for £119 through O2 and other retailers but, a bargain has been spotted on Argos’ outlet store on eBay.

They are currently selling Xperia X10 Mini’s for just £79.99 with £3.99 postage. In comparison, Argos are selling sim free X10 Mini’s for £234.99. There are currently more than 10 available through the Argos eBay outlet store with 29 sold. How many more than 10 are available though is unknown so if this deal appears, you’d best be quick. They previously had Xperia X8 handsets on O2 for a reasonable £69.99, compared to the usual £99.99 price point but, quickly sold out and only had 16 units in stock.

As the name suggest, the Xperia Mini Pro like the X10 Mini Pro and Xperia Pro, will feature a QWERTY slide out keyboard to make messaging on the go even easier. Both the Xperia Mini and Mini Pro feature a larger screen by 0.45 inches, coming in at 3 inches. The extra space should also mean the keyboard is more comfortable to type with on the Mini Pro and on screen typing on both handsets should be easier. The four corner UI remains on the two new handsets but, has seen an improvement, where by the homescreen can now display up to 16 apps.

The camera on the handsets hasn’t been improved as such, it’s still a 5 megapixel camera. However the Xperia Mini and Mini Pro will support 720p video recording, which makes these two handsets the smallest HD video recording smartphones around. Sony Ericsson are launching the handsets with Android 2.3 and hopefully we should see timely updates from them this time around.

Rumors are flying around at the moment that Sony Ericsson are about to make an announcement of three new handsets, as soon as this week. Two of the handsets there’s a few details about, where as the third handset nothing is known of it.

The first handset rumoured to be announced this week is the Sony Ericsson Xperia Mango which is said to be the successor to the X10 Mini Pro, as it features a slide out keyboard while being mini in form. The screen is rumored to be larger than the Mini Pro though, coming in at around 3 inches. Likewise, the second handset the Sony Ericsson Xperia Smultron is also said to feature a 3 inch display. The Smultron will not feature a slide out keyboard, so is tipped to be the successor to the Mini Pro.

Other rumors suggest that both handsets will come with a 1GHz processor and Android 2.3.3. There are no rumored specifications for the third handset, although there is a lot of speculation about what the third handset could be, ranging from it being a dual core handset, or a Windows Phone 7 powered phone.

When Sony Ericsson announced that they had changed their plans for the Xperia X10 and that it would not be stuck on Android 2.1 but, would instead be upgraded to Android 2.3 during the end of Q2/start of Q3, this pleased many customers. However it still left some of Sony Ericsson’s customers rather angry, as while this was great news for owners of the Xperia X10, it was also announced that the X10 Mini, X10 Mini Pro and Xperia X8 were not part of these plans and would remain on Android 2.1 as previously stated.

When Sony Ericsson have been questioned about this, on both Facebook and Twitter, they’ve given the response that the update would not be coming to those handsets, the same response they gave users asking, or complaining about the X10 not being upgraded. Today however, the Sony Ericsson UK Facebook page team have provided a different answer, in fact different to what they said only yesterday. Instead of the usual, it’s not coming to the X10 Mini range or X8, the reply was that there are no confirmed dates at the moment but to keep checking the Sony Ericsson Product Blog, as any new announcements will be posted on there first. While it doesn’t specifically say an Android update, the reply is different to what we’ve seen before and looks very promising. Someone has already jumped on this answer and questioned it, as to whether there will be an official announcement following. Hopefully Sony Ericsson will provide a further Android update to the users who purchased the Mini versions of the X10 as well. Because while X10 owners are now happier, there are still many X10 Mini, Mini Pro and X8 owners very unhappy and this could change things around. However this pans out, we will keep you updated.

As part of Sony Ericsson’s weekly Facebook competition, this week we see a Lime Green X10 Mini Pro in the “limelight”, excuse the pun. As always, all you need to do is visit their competition page , enter your details, along with selecting the right answer to their question.

This week the question is, “Which application allows you to organize all of your photos on the Xperia™ X10 mini pro?” To make it even easier, Sony Ericsson have made it multiple choice, with a selection of three possible answers.

It’s worth noting that while the text specifies a Mini Pro in lime green and the first picture signifies the Mini Pro, the picture displaying the back is in fact of an X10 Mini, which we have seen in Lime Green, where as the Mini Pro, we haven’t actually seen in Lime Green before. Whether it’s a Mini or a Mini Pro though, it’s a definitely worth entering into the competition for only 5-10 seconds of your time.

We all know that Sony Ericsson aren’t great at keeping their upcoming handsets a secret. We saw photos of the Xperia X10 before an official announcement came from Sony Ericsson and even the more recently announced Xperia Arc, we’d seen a while before Sony Ericsson officially announced the handset, in the form of the Anzu. More photos have been leaked of an Xperia handset, this time round it’s the “Xperia Duo”. When questioned via Twitter, Sony Ericsson UK replied with that they believed Android 2.1 was adequate for the X10 range. As a general statement across Twitter, they stated “We believe the features included in the Android 2.1 phone are on par with, and in many cases better than, a vanilla installation of 2.2″. A direct reply to a user message consisted of essentially the same statement “We believe the version of Android 2.1 which we have implemented on the X10 is suitable for the hardware of these particular models”. This of course means, that the Xperia X10 will not gain flash support and despite minor updates in the future, this announcement will have effectively ended the life span of the X10, not to mention the imminent release of the Xperia Arc, which will come with Android 2.3 when released.

Now that we have entered the year 2011 what do you think was the best budget phone for 2010? There are many contenders for this category such as the phones from Nokia, Samsung and LG. What we are looking for is a phone that has tons of useful features and comes with a price tag that won’t break our piggy banks.

Here are the qualities we considered the phone must have to be declared the Budget Phone of the Year for 2010.

After doing research on all the phones that met our requirements the Xperia X10 mini came out as the winner.  The phone has an average price of £200 and this is already unlocked which means you can use it on any GSM network in any country you travel to. Its small size makes it very handy while its functions are at par with its big brother the Xperia X10.  With the latest OS upgrade of Android 2.1 coming from Sony Ericsson you can be assured of a more stable and faster phone.

If you are looking for a phone with excellent features yet won’t cost a lot then the Xperia X10 mini is the best choice available.
