O2 UK have finally released the latest update for the Xperia X10. O2 were the last network in the UK to approve the update, causing many O2 customers and Xperia X10 owners much anger. The software update has gone straight to R2BA026, where as initially it was thought that the older, R2BA020 firmware would be released. The latest update is said to improve the battery life, with many owners agreeing. X10 owners with the latest update are also reporting that the overall performance is much better and especially in TimeScape and MediaScape. Unfortunately, the latest update also includes the WiFi bug. The only firmware users didn’t find this a problem, was in R2BA020, so I’m sure there will be some users who wished it was the earlier firmware released onto O2.

As it stands at the moment, the update can’t be performed as an OTA (over the air) update. Instead users will need to use the Sony Ericsson Update Service or PC Companion to update the firmware version. The download totals 153.8MB.

We’ve just heard of the Xperia X10 coming to Orange and T-Mobile in the UK. We can now add O2 to the list of networks. The handset isn’t listed on the O2 website just yet but, we do have info regarding pricing.

While we haven’t heard what Orange’s pricing will be yet, we now know that O2 are offering a better deal than T-Mobile for the handset. Again the contract length will be 24 months but, the cost will be £30 instead of £35. Minutes are reduced to 600 but, that should be more than adequate for the majority of users. You also get unlimited texts with O2′s tariff.

x10-o2

Last month the Xperia X10 was spotted lurking around in the accessories section of UK carrier O2′s website, leading to speculation that the new android smartphone would be available on O2 when it is released in the UK. Now the handset has made a second appearance on the website in the O2 smartphone section which gives even further reason for us to think that O2 will indeed join their rivals Vodafone and offer the X10, although O2 have not confirmed that as yet.

Here is the link to the latest X10 posting on the O2 site, we hope to see it elsewhere on the site, in the shop for example, soon. Hopefully O2 will confirm that the X10 will become a part of its range soon too.
