While Sony Ericsson may not have released the dual touch update outside of Japan yet, the folks over at XDA have once again, been hard at work. The recently released dual touch update can now be applied to any Xperia X10 handset. You will need the latest version of flashtool and the Dual Touch FTF file available from here.

Yesterday we heard that the promised dual touch update for the Xpeia X10 would be released in Japan. We can now confirm that there have been no delays in releasing the update and users with Japanese Xperia X10 handsets are now able to download and install the update.
As we previously said, the update is currently only available through PC Companion, or SEUS. From tomorrow onwards though, the update will be able to be applied as an OTA update. The dual touch update brings the firmware version up to 2.0.1.B.0.19.

Sony Ericsson Japan have officially announced that the much awaited pinch and zoom update for the Xperia X10 will be released from tomorrow, January 19th. It will be available through PC companion from tomorrow and as an over the air (OTA) update from January 20th. Unfortunately, these dates are only for Japan so other regions will have to wait for more information. However with the update about to be released, it can only be a matter of time before the update reaches other regions.

Despite numerous confirmations now by Sony Ericsson saying that the Xperia X10 does not support multi touch due to hardware limitations, some have still been left wondering if it really does. As after all, Sony Ericsson had previously said it did support multi touch, with even the US Sony Style website listing multi touch as a feature before the launch of the handset.

It’s been confirmed that, unfortunate as it may be, the Android powered handset from Sony Ericsson, the Xperia X10 will not support multi touch. The same is also true for the X10 Mini and X10 Mini Pro.
The X10 however, doesn’t support multi touch due to the hardware, while the X10 Mini has the supporting hardware. Unfortunately, Sony Ericsson have confirmed that a software update to enable it will not be coming. It wasn’t known what the situation was with the X10 Mini Pro whether hardware could of allowed multi touch. We do know however that Sony Ericsson used a different supplier (Synaptics) for the screen of the x10 mini.
