Well Sony Ericsson did say “from the end of October” for the Android 2.1 and the end of October it is. Unfortunately, the very end of October. At least we now have a date for the Android 2.1 update though.

One of the members from the XDA-Developer forums, unknown13x has posted some screenshots of the Xperia X10 running Android 2.1. In the screenshots we get to see how the layout has changed, the new shade of blue for the backgrounds. A few things have been blurred out as it will apparently be a surprise for us when Sony Ericsson release the update. Specific features aren’t mention in case Sony Ericsson decide not to release those features in the consumer updates. As you can see from the above screenshot, the build number is different to the approved firmwares we’ve seen on PTCRB, with this X10 running 2.0.A.0.497.

The last screenshot also shows us what screen will appear when you go to add a picture frame widget.  You can view all of the screenshots after the jump.

It was noted previously that Sony Ericsson had submitted a new firmware to the PTCRB organization which provides product testing and certification. This firmware, numbered ’2.0.A.0.453′ had been approved on the PTCRB website and due to the difference between this firmware’s identification number and those of previously submitted firmware numbers by Sony Ericsson, this led many to speculate that this newly approved firmware was in fact the much awaited Android 2.1 firmware version and that this meant that an Android 2.1 release was imminent.

Assuming there’s no more delays for Android 2.1, we should be seeing the Xperia X10 range updated to a higher version of Android within the next couple of weeks. Things seem to be on track, as Rikard Skogberg has posted a few videos up of an Xperia X10 running Android 2.1, aka Eclair.

Week 38 is the 20th to the 26th of September and that is the confirmed date that Android version 2.1 (or Eclair as it is also known) for the Xperia X10 series will be released in Spain.

The Spanish division of Sony Ericsson apparently have posted on their Facebook page, as shown above declaring that Eclair will be launched during week 38 and this ties in well with our previously known information that the update would be released in Q3 of this year.
