SE-Xperia » Xperia X10 Unofficial Sony Ericsson Xperia news blog Thu, 25 Jul 2013 11:38:43 +0000 en-US hourly 1 O2 to release 2.3 for X10 next week Wed, 09 Nov 2011 23:06:05 +0000
It’s been a while since Sony Ericsson released Android 2.3.3 for the Xperia X10 and for a while there, we thought we’d never see it. In the UK the Android update has been rolled out to generic unbranded handsets and network branded handsets, except for O2 branded ones. O2 were always quite slow with the uptake of the Xperia X10 updates but, none the less they have confirmed that their Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 owners will be getting Android 2.3.3, aka Gingerbread on their devices.

O2 state that they had problems while testing the software on the phones and found the update caused problems with the camera. They have worked with Sony Ericsson to resolve this issue and go on to say that the update will be released via the Sony Ericsson PC Companion in a week. They do however warn that as the X10 was only really meant to work with Android 2.2 so, if you do update to Android 2.3, the X10 may run slower than you’re used to and advise that you should be sure about updating as it’s an irreversible action. Currently the O2 branded Xperia X10s are running Android 2.1.

Xperia X10 available for $25.50 on 12 month plan Thu, 20 Oct 2011 14:07:05 +0000
OK, so the Xperia X10 may be old news now and will not have any further Android updates above 2.3.3. However, Rogers have the Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 on a rather tempting price plan.

Rogers are offering the Xperia X10 for $25.50 a month when taking out a twelve month contract with them. Minimum pricing is $32.35 a month. To put that in perspective, the Xperia Arc is available on a one year contract but, the actual handset will cost $499.99 and $449.99 if you go with a two year contract.

Availability of the Xperia X10 on this offer, is only while stocks last.  If you’re interested in this offer, head on over to the Rogers page here.

Sony Ericsson say goodbye to Xperia Play Minecraft exclusivity in style Wed, 28 Sep 2011 22:59:46 +0000

This week sees the end of the Sony Ericsson Xperia Play’s exclusivity on Minecraft: Pocket Edition. The game will be headed to other Android powered devices from September 29th. The game was made available to the Xperia Play back in August and after just over 6 weeks of only being available to Xperia Play owners, the game will be available to other Android devices, such as the Xperia Arc with touch screen controls.

To celebrate the Play’s exclusive time with Minecraft, folks over at Sony Ericsson built a giant Xperia Play within Minecraft which you can view above. Mojang have also provided a video demonstrating touch screen controls of the game on an Xperia Play which you can view below.

Bootloader unlocked for both Xperia X10 and X8 handsets Sun, 18 Sep 2011 19:28:57 +0000 sony_ericssonx10o
XDA-Developers member the_laser has released a method to unlock the bootloader on both the Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 and the Xperia X8 handsets. The same method can be used to unlock the bootloaders on all the 2010 released models of mobiles from Sony Ericsson.

Unlocking the bootloader is a risky process however and should be done with much caution. If you don’t have confidence in your ability to go ahead and unlock your own handset’s bootloader then the advice would be to just not do it. However, if you are determined to have deep root access on your phone to install custom ROMs for example then the details and instructions can be found at the following links:

Another classic game has been rejigged and revitalized to work alongside the Sony Ericsson Xperia Play’s control system.

“We’re delighted to be launching Lode Runner X on Xperia PLAY – the smartphone’s performance and physical controls add a great new dimension to our title which until now has only been available on traditional games consoles.” Scott K. Tsumura of Tozai Games

Lode Runner will be relabeled as “Lode Runner X” when it is released as an exclusive Xperia Play title and for other Xperia handsets, the Sony Ericsson press release has announced.
