However, for the first month the game is an Xperia exclusive. The game is available on the Sony Xperia S, Xperia Ion and the Sony Ericsson Xperia Play. After the month is over, we should see it on the other Xperia handsets as well as other Android powered smartphones and tablets.

There is a 50 level “Dead-Ops Arcade” mode where you can fight off the hoards of zombies, either on your own or with up to three friends with the Wi-Fi co-op multiplayer. If you have one of the three above phones, you can download the game for £4.99/$6.99.

Confirmed: ICS isn’t coming to the Xperia Play http://se-xperia.com/confirmed-ics-isnt-coming-to-the-xperia-play/ http://se-xperia.com/confirmed-ics-isnt-coming-to-the-xperia-play/#comments Fri, 25 May 2012 21:42:45 +0000 http://se-xperia.com/?p=2276 Yesterday we saw what could have been described as an oversight on Sonys part. On the information page regarding the Android 4.0 update the Xperia Play was missing from the list of handsets that were due to be upgraded.

Sony have announced that this wasn’t a mistake and the Xperia Play will not be receiving the Android 4.0 update, despite having worked on it extensively to the point of releasing a beta version of the ROM. In releasing the beta version however, Sony found several issues with games and compatibility which, inevitably has led to the decision of the Xperia Play staying on Gingerbread. After extensive testing of ICS, a consistent and stable experience couldn’t be guaranteed on the Xperia Play, especially with gaming.

Along with the bombshell announcement, Sony have released information regarding the Android 4.0 update for other handsets. Following on from Android 4 being rolled out for the Xperia Arc S, Xperia Neo V and Xperia Ray, the update will begin rolling out next week for the other Xperia handsets released in 2011, minus the Play – Xperia arc, Xperia neo, Xperia mini, Xperia mini pro, Xperia pro, Xperia active and Sony Ericsson Live with Walkman. The Xperia S will be the first NXT Xperia handset to be updated at the end of June, with the Xperia P next to receive it. The Xperia U will receive the update later in Q3. The updates starting from next week will update the handsets to Android 4.0.4 and the Xperia Arc S, Xperia Neo V and Xperia Ray will be upgraded from 4.0.3 to 4.0.4.

ICS may not be headed to Xperia Play http://se-xperia.com/ics-may-not-be-headed-to-xperia-play/ http://se-xperia.com/ics-may-not-be-headed-to-xperia-play/#comments Thu, 24 May 2012 22:33:08 +0000 http://se-xperia.com/?p=2270 Sony recently released an ICS beta ROM for the Xperia Play and asked for feedback, specifically relating to games compatibility. A number of issues were reported with game compatibility and now it looks like ICS may not be heading to the Xperia Play after all. There’s been no official word from Sony regarding the matter but, on a Sony Mobile software update page with information regarding Android 4.0 it lists all the 2011 Xperia handsets that will be getting the ICS update. The Xperia Play however, is missing from this list.

This could just be a mistake and we could see the Xperia Play on the list once the error has been corrected but, based on game compatibility findings, Sony may decide to stick with Android 2.3 on the Play. Hopefully Sony will shed some light on the matter either way soon.

ICS Xperia update continues to rollout Sony confirm http://se-xperia.com/ics-xperia-update-continues-to-rollout-sony-confirm/ http://se-xperia.com/ics-xperia-update-continues-to-rollout-sony-confirm/#comments Thu, 26 Apr 2012 09:36:02 +0000 http://se-xperia.com/?p=2179 As most Xperia owners will know by now, Sony are busy rolling out the much awaited update to the Android operating software – namely Android 4.0 or Ice Cream Sandwich – on Xperia handsets that were released in 2011 or later eg the Xperia S, Xperia Arc, Xperia Neo and so on.

Although the company don’t give specific release dates, they are keen to keep us up to date and assure Xperia users that ICS is on the way and have posted an update doing just that. The ICS rollout is already hitting the Nordic countries and Sony are continuing to push forward with the release globally although networks are also involved in bringing the update to customers which may slow things down a little.

A list of already released Ice Cream Sandwich updates can be found at the Sony Blog and instructions on how to upgrade your 2011 Xperia handset can be found here.

Developer ICS ROM released for 2011 Xperia models http://se-xperia.com/developer-ics-rom-released-for-2011-xperia-models/ http://se-xperia.com/developer-ics-rom-released-for-2011-xperia-models/#comments Sat, 31 Mar 2012 18:41:16 +0000 http://se-xperia.com/?p=2171 Sony have released a beta, aka developer version of the upcoming Android update, Ice Cream Sandwich. The update is for advanced developers, who have extensive knowledge in how to install and switch between ROMs, there fore shouldn’t be installed by any one who doesn’t really know what they’re doing.

If however, you’re comfortable with this, you will need an unlocked Xperia Arc S, Xperia Neo V, Xperia Ray or an Xperia Play running 4.0.2.A.0.42 and an unlocked bootloader. WiFi and Bluetooth are two key features that aren’t included in the beta version of ICS, nor are Google Mobile Services, including Gmail, Google Maps and Face Unlock.
