SE-Xperia » Xperia ion Unofficial Sony Ericsson Xperia news blog Thu, 25 Jul 2013 11:38:43 +0000 en-US hourly 1 ICS released for Xperia Ion Sun, 23 Sep 2012 20:12:53 +0000 For owners of the LTE version of the Xperia ion handset (also known as LT28i), Sony have started rolling out the much anticipated update to Ice Cream Sandwich.

Currently the update is available only in the territories of Taiwan and Hong Kong but, other markets internationally are expected to receive the update soon. The firmware version on handsets will increase to version 6.1.E.1.19 as Android 4.0.4 installs itself on the Xperia ion handset. For those users on AT&T, news should be coming soon regarding when this update will be available to you to download to your handset.

It is reported that the version of ICS that this update installs actually is the same as that found on other Xperia handsets that have Ice Cream Sandwich installed on them ie the Xperia S and Xperia P smartphones.

Red Xperia Ion hands on photos Tue, 10 Jul 2012 23:21:42 +0000 A little while ago, we noticed that Sony had updated their Xperia Ion page and a red version was showing. Sony however hadn’t and still haven’t officially announced a red version of the handset. Over at Yesky however, one lucky soul has got their hands on the red version and has offered up several close up photos of the red Sony Xperia Ion.

Like the rest of the Xperia handsets that come in other colors apart from black, the front of the phone is still black which contrasts against the various colors. Some phones and colors work better than others though but, the contrast between the aluminium red on the back and the black on the front works very well together. Hopefully we will see the red Xperia Ion land out side of China as well.

Xperia Ion AT&T release date and price confirmed Sat, 16 Jun 2012 09:31:29 +0000 Every since we saw the Xperia Ion ad on Google, there’s been much speculation that AT&T and Sony would be releasing the Xperia Ion this month in the US but, until now neither company had given any official word on release date. That has now changed and we can confirm that the Xperia Ion will finally arrive in the US on June 24th. Despite the US being the first country to be confirmed to release the handset back in January, both Hong Kong and Taiwan have released the handset already, shortly after announcing they would be launching the phone.

You will be able to pick the Xperia Ion up through AT&T from June 24th on a two year contract for $99. The handset will ship with Android 2.3.7 out of the box but, with Android 4.0 already rolling out to 2011 Xperia models and the Xperia S roll out to follow soon, it shouldn’t be too long until Ice Cream Sandwich is on the Xperia Ion.

Sony to release red Xperia Ion Sat, 16 Jun 2012 09:21:17 +0000 The release of the Xperia Ion in the US is drawing closer and has already been released in Taiwan and Hong Kong. The Sony website now shows a red Xperia Ion next to the black one. From the looks of it though, the red Sony Xperia Ion will not be released in the US but, instead will be available internationally, indicated by the model number LT28i instead of LT28a.

As we’ve seen before, the red version may be an exclusive to certain countries or networks. Here in the UK, Vodafone grabbed the exclusive rights to the red Xperia Neo, while O2 picked up the white Xperia Play. With it being red, it’s quite likely that if it is released in the UK, Vodafone will try to strike a deal with Sony to be the exclusive seller of the metallic red version. Despite appearing on the Sony Mobile website however, Sony are yet to to confirm availability of the red Xperia Ion.
