SE-Xperia » Xperia Arc http://se-xperia.com Unofficial Sony Ericsson Xperia news blog Thu, 25 Jul 2013 11:38:43 +0000 en-US hourly 1 Xperia Arc S down to £189.95 on pay as you go http://se-xperia.com/xperia-arc-s-down-to-189-95-on-pay-as-you-go/ http://se-xperia.com/xperia-arc-s-down-to-189-95-on-pay-as-you-go/#comments Thu, 21 Jun 2012 20:38:30 +0000 http://se-xperia.com/?p=2334 Just before Christmas we saw the Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc S drop down to £199.99 at UK retailer Phones4U for those “upgrading” a pay as you go number, or £239.99 on pay as you go including a £10 top up. Now the phone has been out almost a year and there’s a new flagship Xperia in town, the price has dropped down even further.

The Sony [Ericsson] Xperia Arc S can be purchased from Phones4U for just £179.95 plus a £10 top up. The handset is available with T-Mobile, O2, Vodafone and Orange. There’s also a strong possibility that the Xperia Arc S from Phones4U will actually be unlocked as well.

The Xperia Arc S was released later in the year after the original Xperia Arc. Most features remained the same as did the design. However, Sony bumped the processor up from a single core 1GHz to 1.4GHz CPU. The Arc S is also available in white as well as midnight blue, while the original Xperia Arc was available in midnight blue and silver.

The white was an exclusive to Phones4U and is the model on offer and can be bought here.

Confirmed: ICS isn’t coming to the Xperia Play http://se-xperia.com/confirmed-ics-isnt-coming-to-the-xperia-play/ http://se-xperia.com/confirmed-ics-isnt-coming-to-the-xperia-play/#comments Fri, 25 May 2012 21:42:45 +0000 http://se-xperia.com/?p=2276 Yesterday we saw what could have been described as an oversight on Sonys part. On the information page regarding the Android 4.0 update the Xperia Play was missing from the list of handsets that were due to be upgraded.

Sony have announced that this wasn’t a mistake and the Xperia Play will not be receiving the Android 4.0 update, despite having worked on it extensively to the point of releasing a beta version of the ROM. In releasing the beta version however, Sony found several issues with games and compatibility which, inevitably has led to the decision of the Xperia Play staying on Gingerbread. After extensive testing of ICS, a consistent and stable experience couldn’t be guaranteed on the Xperia Play, especially with gaming.

Along with the bombshell announcement, Sony have released information regarding the Android 4.0 update for other handsets. Following on from Android 4 being rolled out for the Xperia Arc S, Xperia Neo V and Xperia Ray, the update will begin rolling out next week for the other Xperia handsets released in 2011, minus the Play – Xperia arc, Xperia neo, Xperia mini, Xperia mini pro, Xperia pro, Xperia active and Sony Ericsson Live with Walkman. The Xperia S will be the first NXT Xperia handset to be updated at the end of June, with the Xperia P next to receive it. The Xperia U will receive the update later in Q3. The updates starting from next week will update the handsets to Android 4.0.4 and the Xperia Arc S, Xperia Neo V and Xperia Ray will be upgraded from 4.0.3 to 4.0.4.

ICS Xperia update continues to rollout Sony confirm http://se-xperia.com/ics-xperia-update-continues-to-rollout-sony-confirm/ http://se-xperia.com/ics-xperia-update-continues-to-rollout-sony-confirm/#comments Thu, 26 Apr 2012 09:36:02 +0000 http://se-xperia.com/?p=2179 As most Xperia owners will know by now, Sony are busy rolling out the much awaited update to the Android operating software – namely Android 4.0 or Ice Cream Sandwich – on Xperia handsets that were released in 2011 or later eg the Xperia S, Xperia Arc, Xperia Neo and so on.

Although the company don’t give specific release dates, they are keen to keep us up to date and assure Xperia users that ICS is on the way and have posted an update doing just that. The ICS rollout is already hitting the Nordic countries and Sony are continuing to push forward with the release globally although networks are also involved in bringing the update to customers which may slow things down a little.

A list of already released Ice Cream Sandwich updates can be found at the Sony Blog and instructions on how to upgrade your 2011 Xperia handset can be found here.

Developer ICS ROM released for 2011 Xperia models http://se-xperia.com/developer-ics-rom-released-for-2011-xperia-models/ http://se-xperia.com/developer-ics-rom-released-for-2011-xperia-models/#comments Sat, 31 Mar 2012 18:41:16 +0000 http://se-xperia.com/?p=2171 Sony have released a beta, aka developer version of the upcoming Android update, Ice Cream Sandwich. The update is for advanced developers, who have extensive knowledge in how to install and switch between ROMs, there fore shouldn’t be installed by any one who doesn’t really know what they’re doing.

If however, you’re comfortable with this, you will need an unlocked Xperia Arc S, Xperia Neo V, Xperia Ray or an Xperia Play running 4.0.2.A.0.42 and an unlocked bootloader. WiFi and Bluetooth are two key features that aren’t included in the beta version of ICS, nor are Google Mobile Services, including Gmail, Google Maps and Face Unlock.

London Eye Time lapse video created with Xperia Arc S http://se-xperia.com/london-eye-timelapse-video-created-with-xperia-arc-s/ http://se-xperia.com/london-eye-timelapse-video-created-with-xperia-arc-s/#comments Tue, 31 Jan 2012 19:52:17 +0000 http://se-xperia.com/?p=2076 I’m sure most of us have seen this sort of video before but, it’s not every day that a time lapse video is created with a Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc S. The Xperia Arc S doesn’t come with a time lapse feature built in but, there are many that you can download off the Android Market. The owner of this very cool time lapse video doesn’t say what app was used to create it.

YouTube user zyavar does however say, that the time lapse video of the London Eye was created using 1862 photos taken over 2 hours 35 minutes from a London hotel room. You can check out the London Eye time lapse video below. Let us know in the comments if you’ve created any time lapse videos using your Xperia phones.
