Android update pushed forward for Xperia X10 line

Originally, the Xperia X10, X10 Mini and X10 Mini Pro were, to many people’s disappointment, due to get the Android 2.1 update in Q4 of this year. With 2.2 announced many people were hoping that Sony Ericsson would skip 2.1 and go straight to Android 2.2 but, they have confirmed this won’t be the case. However they have pushed the release of Android 2.1 forward from Q4 to late Q3. To some this won’t make much difference but, we’re now looking at a September release for 2.1 instead of possible as late as December.

Sony Ericsson have also confirmed they are working on Android 2.2. They have also committed to a Q4 release for Froyo, so we should see the Xperia X10 updated to the latest Android operating system by the end of the year.

    Will the X10 Mini Pro be getting Froyo as well as the X10?

      The X10, X10 Mini, X10 Mini Pro and X8 will all be getting Android 2.1 (Eclair). However there’s now a rumor going around that Android 2.2 (Froyo), may not be headed to the X10/Mini/Mini Pro/X8. We will have to wait to see whether there’s any substance to this claim though.

    hey admin,

    i was just wondering, what with all the complaints and frustration for x10 family users towards SE, can you remember/ do you know where the info in this article came from? was it an official announcement made by SE?

    the reason i ask is because if its official SE announcement then us disgruntled users have a case for legal action against them, or in the least misselling aproduct.

      Hi, yeah Ive just had a look through and managed to find where I got the info from. I found the info on Cnet, although they didn’t specify from where they heard that Sony Ericsson were working on the update – http://www.cnet.com.au/who-else-is-getting-android-2-2-339304181.htm I will look through old information, pre release etc, to see if I can see anything about future updates, you do have a very valid point there. I’m sure they’d just back it up with “the x10 will still get system updates……just not android”. I’ll look though :) .
